Retsu Unohana, formerly named Yachiru Unohana, is a supporting character in Tite Kubo’s manga/anime series Bleach. She is the captain of the 4th Division of the Gotei 13, in which she and her squad serve as the court’s healers for the Soul Society, holding the foremost authority on medical care and Kido use.

Unbeknownst to many, however, she was once the single most feared Shinigami in the entire Soul Society known as Yachiru Unohana, having originally served under the 11th Division as its captain. She was infamous for being the first Kenpachi, a cold-blooded killer that enjoyed the thrill of combat and bloodshed. Having been slain by her successor, Kenpachi Zaraki, she was casted into Hell and earned herself the epithet, “Death Sword”.
