Kodansha USA announced that acclaimed manga creator Makoto Yukimura will make his first U.S. appearance at the 2023 San Diego Comic-Con, in support of his Vinland Saga manga series. The convention will be held over the weekend of July 20-23 at the San Diego Convention Center.
Kodansha USA will be present at booth #5542 to feature signings with Yukimura, con-exclusive giveaways, and “additional surprises” that will be announced closer to the event.

Yukimura first launched Vinland Saga in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine from April 13, 2005 to October 19, 2005. It was then transferred to Monthly Afternoon magazine on December 24, 2005 and has released 26 tankoubon volumes as of May 2022. A 27th volume will be released on June 22, 2023.
The manga series was awarded the Grand Prize in the manga division of the Ministry of Cultural Affairs’ 13th Japan Media Arts Festival Awards in 2009. It also won the 36th Kodansha Manga Award for Best General Manga in 2012.
The Vinland Saga manga inspired a TV anime series that first premiered on July 7, 2019 with a 24-episode first season from WIT Studio. A 24-episode second season from MAPPA has been airing since January 10, 2023. Netflix and Crunchyroll are streaming the anime outside of Japan.
Yukimura previously worked on the Planetes manga from January 1999 to January 2004 in Kodansha’s Morning magazine. Dark Horse released the manga in English as two omnibus volumes.
